Workshop on sustainable China-EU technology transfer successfully held in NPU, Xi’an

In order to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's request of "planning open cooperation in science and technology from a global perspective", promote technology transfer between China and Europe, and explore the construction of a sustainable technology transfer network between China and Europe. The Workshop on sustainable China-EU technology transfer was held at Youyi Campus International Conference Center of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) from November 19th to 20th, 2018.

 

The Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NPU, Chen Jianyou, Winner of ‘Chinese Government Friendship Award’, Prof. Jan Cornelis of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Representatives from the government, universities and enterprises, such as Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province, Science and Technology Bureau of Xi'an City, Bureau of Science and Technology Innovation of Xi'an Economic Development Zone, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Development Planning Office of NPU, Humanities, Economics and Laws School of NPU, National University Science Park of NPU, Zhong Guan Cun Chengdu Venture Center, Xi’an Bright Laser Technology. Co.Ltd. and Shaanxi SecureCon technologies. Co.Ltd.,discussed and exchanged in-depth on the topic of technology transfer between China and Europe.

The opening ceremony of the workshop hosted by Zhang Qingjiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities, Economics and Laws. Chen Jianyou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NPU, delivered a welcoming speech. On behalf of NPU, he warmly welcomed all the participants. He introduced the characteristics and achievements of teaching and scientific research. NPU has been implementing new measures and exploring new ways in international cooperation and technology transfer in order to achieve new breakthroughs in the process of promoting the "double first-class" construction. It hoped that the participants will conduct in-depth analysis and exchanges and can contribute to development of technology transfer between China and Europe.

 

Prof. Jan Cornelis introduced the progress of cooperation between NPU and VUB in personnel training and technology transfer. He expressed the hope that through the case study of the cooperation between the two universities in the direction of technology transfer, it could provide advanced experience that could be replicated and promoted for China-EU technology transfer cooperation.

 

Guo Haiying, Director, Office of International Cooperation, Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province, welcomed the participants on behalf of Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province. He pointed out that Shaanxi is currently strengthening construction of innovative provinces. The holding of this workshop fully reflects the practical feelings and spirit of NPU in serving Shaanxi's scientific and technological innovation and development. It hoped that NPU will continue to pay attention to Shaanxi's development and provide intellectual support for the government's decision-making and reform.

 

Professor Ding Shejiao, Dean of the School of Humanities, Economics and Laws, and Professor Niu Zhenxi, Chairman of National University Science and Technology Park, NPU hosted the discussion sessions.

 

At the workshop, the participating experts had in-depth exchanges and discussions on such topics as "China-EU technology transfer practice -- experience from Belgium", "China-EU technology transfer policy and legal issues", "new development of China-EU technology transfer: practice of NPU and other regions", "new China-EU technology transfer model from the perspective of multiple subjects", "promoting China-EU sustainable technology transfer", etc., and reached preliminary consensus on specific cooperation issues such as “carrying out China-EU technology transfer education, training and practice, and building China-EU international technology transfer institution”.

 

On November 20th, a group of experts went to visit Feitian innovation space, Soaring town and Xi’an Economic and Technological Development Zone, and had an in-depth understanding of the university innovation and entrepreneurship platform, construction of characteristic town and technology transfer in the economic and technological development zone.

 

The Workshop on sustainable China-EU technology transfer was co-hosted by NPU and VUB, and jointly organized by the School of Humanities, Economics and Laws and the National University Science Park of NPU. The models and paths of promoting sustainable development of China-EU technology transfer put forward by experts at the workshop have laid a solid foundation for governments, universities and enterprises to take part in international technology transfer and promote sustainable development of China-EU technology transfer.
