The fourth graduate academic salon of the Department of Public Administration of our school was successfully held in the MPA Center 101 classroom at 9:30 on December 28, 2018. The theme of this academic salon is “The exchange of qualitative research methods – mainly case studies”. The event invited Zhang Lin, an assistant professor of the Public Administration Department, as a shareholder. The Department of Public Administration, 2017, 2018, and the MPA professional masters listened attentively.
At the beginning of the activity, firstly, Mrs Zhang explained the students' mastery of the commonly used research methods through the questions, and then shared her own experiences on qualitative research, helping students form a preliminary understanding of qualitative research. Mrs. Zhang emphasized that there is no good or bad research method, only suitable or not, and based on the framework of the research method. She briefly explained speculative research, literature research, ethnography, field investigation, narrative research, case study, grounded theory, The differences and connections between empirical research, experimental research and many other research methods. That have deepened the understanding of the research methods.
Finally, Mr. Zhang recommended serveral relevent books.The students took the "advance" qualitative research under the guidance of Mrs Zhang especially the qualitative research methods.
