In order to further help graduate students who are interested in continuing their doctoral studies better understand the doctoral application process and plan their academic development path, on March 22, the School of Public Policy and Administration held a PhD application experience exchange meeting in Room 305 of the college building with the theme of "there is a way to compete for a PhD and there is a way for you to research". The conference was chaired by graduate counselor Huang Qingzi, and four senior students who have obtained doctoral qualifications, Fan Yanxiang, Han Guoying, An Jizhao, and Chen Jiaqi, were invited to participate. They shared and answered questions about their experience in applying for a PhD. Several graduate students who are willing to apply for doctoral degrees participated in this exchange.

Sharer 1: Fan Yanxiang, has successfully obtained the doctoral qualification for the School of Urban and Environmental Studies at Peking University

Fan Yanxiang proposed that applying for a PhD is a long-term and lengthy process, and hopes that younger students can clarify their goals, plan and prepare in advance as soon as possible. When selecting a target university, in addition to considering the overall strength and discipline ranking of the university, attention should also be paid to its faculty, research conditions, and academic atmosphere. At the same time, understand the admission policies and standards of the school, such as English and paper publication, to ensure that your application meets the requirements. During the process of applying for a PhD, avoid mental exhaustion, maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, and persist until the end.

Sharer 2: Han Guoying, who has successfully obtained the PhD qualification from the School of Economics and Management at Southeast University

Han Guoying proposed that during school, emphasis should be placed on strengthening professional knowledge and striving to publish papers; During the process of taking the PhD, establish a sincere interactive relationship with the doctoral supervisor, keep track of the progress of college registration, carefully prepare all application materials, and develop a detailed application plan and schedule. The doctoral application involves a wide range of materials, including personal statements, recommendation letters, research plans, transcripts, etc. It is necessary to plan the tasks and time nodes for each stage in advance to ensure that the preparation and submission of application materials are orderly, while leaving enough time for material review and modification to ensure the quality of the application.

Sharer 3: An Jizhao, has successfully obtained the doctoral qualification from the School of Economics and Management at Dalian University of Technology

An Jizhao proposed that the selection of doctoral programs should be based on the research direction of the supervisor and one's own academic interests, and can be applied for across majors; Pay attention to accumulating academic achievements in daily life, actively participate in scientific research projects, publish academic papers, attend academic conferences, etc., expand academic horizons, and showcase one's academic achievements and strength; Continuously improving English proficiency and paying attention to the validity of English certificates; Maintain close contact with the target mentor and strive for offline communication opportunities.

Sharer 4: Chen Jiaqi, has successfully obtained the doctoral qualification from the School of Marxism, Northwestern Polytechnical University

Chen Jiaqi proposed that doctoral applications should be based on interests and not forget the original intention; Make a good plan and prepare in advance; Engage in practice and value writing. Not only pursuing mastery of knowledge, but also maintaining a thirst for knowledge. During the doctoral application process, it is inevitable to encounter setbacks and difficulties, but as long as one maintains a firm belief and a positive attitude, they can definitely overcome difficulties and achieve success. At the same time, one should also learn to adjust their expectations and mindset reasonably, avoiding excessive anxiety and internal friction.

Through this exchange activity, the attending graduate students have gained a deeper understanding of their doctoral degree applications and a clearer positioning of their future plans. The School of Public Policy and Administration will continue to adhere to the purpose of "preaching, teaching, and resolving doubts", providing students with more practical academic support and assistance, and helping them continue to move forward on their academic path.
